Gregory Peck in “The Great Sinner” (1949)

The Great Sinner is a 1949 American drama film directed by Robert Siodmak. Based on the 1866 short novel “The Gambler” written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the film stars Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Frank Morgan, Ethel Barrymore, Walter Huston, Agnes Moorehead and Melvyn Douglas. (Wikipedia)

The film flopped at the box office, and I can imagine why. The Herald Tribune called it “pompous and dull”, I call it silly. Everybody who enters the casino in Wiesbaden immediately suffers from gambling fever, Peck’s character, Fedya, even physically. Well, it’s light entertainment, not a great Dostoyevsky adaptation.

Anyway, Gregory Peck sure looks fine! ♥
